Last night, I played in Saugatuck, MI @ The Boathouse with Dan McGuinness from Chicago.
I would have to say it was one of my favorite nights thus far. The Saugatuck community seemed to ask for what they didn't know. They wanted the guy with the guitar to do what he does, not what everyone else does. It's not every show when I can play some of the very deep original songs I have because there's an "entertainment" value to the bar. It's a 'majority rules' type of atmosphere, and the general atmosphere I see wants to be entertained. It's not a bad thing. Everyone likes to be entertained. I guess I just like seeing a crew willing to be entertained, yet willing to see what their jester actually has to say. There's "Beerfest" Entertainment, with I just saw and laughed my beer ou rof my nose, and theirs Mind Enetertainment, when what you're hearing causes your brain to move away from autopilot.
It's not about the number of people. It's about the number of people who 'get it'. I tell the story often about playing songs like 'Brown Eyed Girl': Though it's not my favorite song, 15 seconds into the song, when you are dancing and bopping and toe-tapping, the song becomes about the comerodere and the good time being had as we all drop out issues and just create a sort of unit of friendship. I hope that makes sense.
In short....er; some songs I play for you. Some I play for me hoping you can find something in it that makes yours. And if it's not mine, I"ll do what I can to make it ours
I hope that made sense.
